Over half way!

We are over half way through our trip!  Last weekend we went to Nairobi to buy supplies for the last part of our trip.  John was a rock star driver.  He didn’t miss a beat driving in Nairobi traffic.  For those of you who have never driven on the “wrong” side of the road with your steering wheel on the “wrong” side of  the car in a country with limited driving rules, you won’t understand!

While we were there we took the girls to the Giraffe Center where the girls could feed and pet the giraffes.  We stayed well over an hour and had a great time.  Jenna and AnneMarie especially loved feeding the giraffes.  Jenna’s face was priceless each time she did it.  Katie, on the other hand, would wait for one of her sisters to feed the giraffe so that she could pet it!

Shopping in Nairobi is always an adventure because you never know what you will find.  We went to two different stores and were unable to find crushed or diced tomatoes.  Now, this wouldn’t normally be too big of an issue with me in America, but here, we make all of our spaghetti, lasagna and pizza sauce from scratch.  Having diced tomatoes speeds up the process a bit!  On the other hand, I found Old El Paso chopped green chile!  It was a rather small can for $2 and I’m sure it doesn’t pack a lot of heat, but you can bet that I bought a few of them!  Now I just have to use them discerningly because those of you who know me, know that I eat green chile on just about everything!

On Wednesday, we went with another family to have a picnic by the river.  The river was flowing abundantly and was so full we couldn’t even sit by the banks so we climbed the hill and ate on the rocks overlooking the river.  The girls love all of the adventrures they are able to experience here from the bugs, to the animals, to seeing what John does at the hospital, to the different terrain.  Although we have had our struggles in adjusting, everyday we feel so blessed that God has made a way for us to come.

We just have a few more weeks at Tenwek and then we head to Kijabe hospital overlooking the Great Rift Valley!
